MATTOCK: Laurence (George)
If you asked a hundred people who George Mattock was, they’d all give you a different story. A talented pianist, a man on an African safari who walked the wall of China, and sailed the Rhine River flowing through Europe. Or was he a rugged humble farmer, as hard as iron nails, who could flip a cow with his bare hands. Others might say he was a devoted husband to his belated wife Margaret, a respected and loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, a dedicated son and a loyal friend to all who were blessed to have known him. The truth is, he was all of those things and much more. After a determined battle with his health, George passed unexpectedly, after 78 fully lived years, and at peace with his beloved family on Saturday. George’s fine character and gentle, generous nature will be missed by all. For his final farewell, there will be a service for George held at the Matamata Club, Rawhiti St, Matamata on Tuesday 29th June at 10am. Then On Wednesday 30th June at Holy Trinity Church, Henui Street, Strandon, New Plymouth at 12.30pm, then he will be laid to rest (with his beloved Margaret) at Awanui Cemetery.
